Flower tin

Ta-daaaaa!

Behold the new tin I made for a craft recipe challenge on art piaskownica. I'm always looking for new ideas to dress up my tins - they're formula tins and I have stacks of them from when M was a baby. The last one I made was for my daughter and you can see it here or in the Arts&Crafts section of the blog. The recipe specified we use: a piece of fabric, metal, string and a stone. I used: a piece of IKEA fabric I've bought ages ago at a sale, pearls, felt, tin:) metal beads and soutache string. I think it turned out okay, it makes a cute dry vase or pencil tin. My daughter loves it, maybe she'll have it:)

Cute tissue paper bunting

Wreszcie jest!

It's finally here!

Po wielu przygotowaniach mój pierwszy w życiu tutorial! Jest całkowicie oryginalny, prosty i słodki. Z kilku/kilkunastu pasków bibuły/skrawków papierów wyczarujecie kolorową girlandę do wykorzystania np. w scrapbookingu, pakowaniu prezentów itp. Ja użyłam go niedawno do wycięcia ...kolejnych, wielokolorowych proporczyków na challenge kartkowy - efekt możecie obejrzeć tutaj. Miłej zabawy z klejem i nożyczkami!

At long last my first ever crafts tutorial! It's completely original, easy to make and cute. All you need are several strips of tissue paper/color or scrapbook paper and you get a colorful bunting reaqdy to use in scrapbooking, gift wrapping etc. The size of the flags depends on the size of strips you use. It's also a fun project to do with your kids - they can cut the strips of paper and glue them together as you only need a glue stick to make it work. After you cut off the bunting from both sides you end up with a nice piece of colored paper "patchwork" which you can use in other projects. I recently used mine to make larger multi-colored flags for a card challenge - you can see the end effect here.I will try to post more ideas for using the"leftover" soon. Maybe you'll come up with some fun ideas? If so, be sure to let me know! Have fun cutting and gluing!

Pancakes!

Pancakes, placuszki śniadaniowe albo penkejki :D  to ulubione weekendowe śniadanie mojej rodzinki. Wersja de luxe (czytaj: sto tysięcy kalorii) to ta z masłem, plastrami chrupiącego boczku i dużym chlustem syropu klonowego.

20 g  = 2 Ł masła (roztopionego i ostudzonego)
1-2 łyżeczki cukru
2 czubate łyżeczki proszku do pieczenia
300 ml mleka
2 jajka
szczypta soli

W średniej wielkości misce mieszamy suche składniki - mąkę, proszek do pieczenia, cukier i sól. W osobnej miseczce trzepaczką rozkłócamy jajka - warto robić to przez chwilę, aby placuszki były puszyste. Do jajek dodajemy stopione masło i mleko, mieszamy.

Niebo!

Pancakes or "penkejki" as we like to call them are my family's favourite weekend breakfast fare. With blueberries, raspberries, peaches, drowned in maple syrup,  agave syrup or honey, topped with nutella or sweet-flavoured butter they are simply DELICIOUS! The de luxe version (read: calories galore) comes with butter, strips of crispy bacon and a genearous splash of maple syrup. We try not to have it too often:D I have been using Nigella's recipe from her book Nigella bites for years now, only changing the preparation a bit to make the pancakes more fluffy. My family and I can never get enough of these lovelies so be sure to try this recipe!

225 g flour
20 g (2 T) unsalted butter (melted and cooled)
1-2 t sugar
2 heaped t baking powder
300 ml milk
2 eggs
pinch of salt

In a medium sized bowl mix all the dry ingredients - the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Crack the eggs into another, smaller bowl and beat them lightly - it will give the pancakes more fluff. Add melted butter, mil and stirr. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ones and whisk together until the batter is smooth (it should be quite thick). Set aside for 10-15 minutes until air bubbles start to come up - that means the baking powder is working its magic - and you're set. Make sure the pan is very hot but reduce the heat before you spoon in the pancakes. I use butter for frying but it's okay to use vegetable oil too. I drain the pancakes only if they're fried in oil.

Crispy bacon (for connoisseurs) - place the bacon strips on a metal rack in a roasting pan and cook at 180 degrees C for approx. 10 minutes. Drain on a paper towel to get the excess fat out. Place the bacon strips on the pancakes and top with maple syrup. Heaven!

Scrap Map challege No. 9

Ehhhh.

I must admit I miss the good old times when people actually used to write and send out traditional  letters and cards. I love going through old correspondence -  I got quite a lot of it as a child and teen ... Aaaahhhh. Everything brings out the memories - the envelope, stationery, the author's handwriting, even the funny little pictures scribbled  on the margins. That is why I especially enjoyed making this card for the Scrap Map challenge. I fully intend to give it to someone on their b-day to celebrate the disappearing art of letter writing:D The very thought of this warms my heart!

The best ice tea

Ostatnie upały i wizyta miłych sąsiadów z dzieciakami zainspirowały mnie do przygotowania domowej mrożonej herbaty.

2 torebki dobrej czarnej herbaty (np. Twinnings Lady Grey)
2-3 łyżki brązowego cukru
1/2 cytryny (dokładnie umytej)
2 Ł soku z cytryny
mała garść listków mięty
kostki lodu

Zaparz herbatę i jeszcze ciepłą posłodź. Kiedy ostygnie dodaj sok z cytryny, liście mięty i cząstki cytryny (ja kroję cytrynę w plasterki, a potem dzielę plastry na ósemki; można dodać całe plastry, ale według mnie trudniej wtedy pić napój). Na koniec duuużo lodu i  aaaaaaaa......

The last few days have been unbelievably hot so when our neighbours poped in with their kids recently I prepared some homemade ice tea to cool us down. It turned out amazing and it's all we've been drinking since:D I love Twinnings' Lady Grey tea though any quality black tea will do. The addition of mint leaves gives the tea  a nice ting and freshness. I rarely used mint in the past but now I'm a fan and heartily recommend it - it's supereasy to grow! Addto this chunks of lemon, some brown sugar or honey, loads of ice and done! Here's the exact recipe:

2 litres water
2 bags quality black tea
2-3 T brown sugar
1/2 lemon (thoroughly washed)
2 T lemon juice
a handful of mint leaves
ice cubes

Make the tea as usual then sweeten it to taste while still warm. When it's cooled down, add the rest of the ingredients and stir. I like to slice the lemon and then cut each slice into wedges but you can add whole slices - although I think it makes drinking a bit more difficult. Top it off with lots of ice and aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh....
